Make Music New York

(Photo taken from flavorpill.com)

Make Music New York gives the start of summer a boost with an outdoor concert — or 850. In synch with hundreds of other city festivals around the world, MMNY assembles free live shows all over town. For the day, Governors Island can be referred to as Punk Island, with 70 "no"-to-the-man bands playing on 12 stages. Central Park brings us closer to our French friends with a francophone set-up claiming the same-day moniker of France's own Fête de la Musique. Many readers will appreciate Brooklyn's Indie 200, while a variety of jazz and blues can be enjoyed in Soho's Jazz Gallery and Jazzmobile. No matter what suits your ears, it's hard to go wrong with this many choices.
