Oragami Holiday Tree
Each year The American Museum of Natural History celebrates by putting a tree. But, this tree isn't like the other trees. This tree is covered in a myriad of multi-colored oragami ornaments made by volunteers. Inspired by the concept of a dinosaur dig, the theme for this years tree is Discovery. Be sure to check it out before they take it down on January 2!
Also, here is a dinosaur related side note. Jason at the front desk does an excellent impression of a raptor.

Romance in New York City
It's Spring, love is in the air, and what better place to be than NYC. With the fresh cool breeze and warmer weather, it's the perfect time to do something special together.
Even here at the Broadway Hotel and Hostel, we have those moments where our guests find a special someone that they would like to share their New York City experience with.
Here are some top romantic places to visit:
Central Park
From Carriage Rides in Central Park and boat rides below Bow Bridge, to Belevedere Castle and the Conservatory Garden, Central Park may just be New York City's most romantic place.
Top of the Empire State Building
If you're looking for an amazing view that's sure to impress, there's nothing that beats the sights from atop the Empire State Building. On a clear day, you can see as far as 80 miles, but nighttime offers the opportunity to gaze at the glowing city below.
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens
While it may be a bit chilly outside on Valentine's Day, when the cherry blossoms are in bloom in April, there is no where more romantic than the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Regardless of the weather, BBG's indoor environments offer visitors a pleasant respite from even the coldest of days.
Metropolitan Museum of Art
From artifacts of Ancient Rome to the museum's collection of modern art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art offers you an opportunity to show off your more cultured side. If you need an escape from all the art try the Balcony Bar, overlooking the Great Hall, or from May until late Fall, you can head upstairs to the rooftop bar to enjoy a drink together.
Hudson River Park
Spanning 5 miles from Battery Park to West 59th Street, the Hudson River Park offers an escape from the buzzing metropolis of New York City, as well as fantastic views of the Hudson River and New Jersey.
Lincoln Center
Even if you can't serenade your sweetie from Avery Fisher Hall, you can show off your savvy by taking a stroll by the Lincoln Center Fountain. When it's illuminated at night, it's a sight to behold.

Test Program "Share-a-Cab". New Yorkers going Communal!
The Taxi and Limousine Commission has launched a new test program where passengers will be able to share a yellow taxi ride, car-pool style along three preset routes in Manhattan.
There will be a flat fee of $3 or $4 a person which is significantly less than the regular meter rates. Riders can ask to be dropped off at most points along that designated route. The shared rides will pick up passengers at taxi stands and will be allowed only on weekdays from 6am -10am.
Both cabbies and passengers should benefit from this plan. For instance, on the Columbus Circle route, each rider will pay $3 (about half the normal cost). With a full car, the driver can pocket up to twice the normal fare.
However, some cabbies do not share the same enthusiasm. In fact some cabbie groups say that the plan may cost drivers business. "Every additional passenger that gets into one cab, means a second cab is left empty," said Bhairavi Desai, executive director of New York Taxi Workers Alliance. He feels that during these hard economic times, it would be horrible to implement such a plan.
In my opinion, this program seems like a good idea on paper. It will help people find cabs easier during peak times and it will help in terms of moving people around more efficiently during rush hour . Also, who's not to like the potential of saving money by creating discounted and flat rates?
I do find it interesting to see how New Yorkers will adapt to this social experiment. New Yorkers are not exactly known for their "sharing" attitude. A taxi ride is usually considered a place of solitude for most. It's about having their own space and avoiding the crowds in the subways. With this program, there would be potential negotiations arising with strangers over routes and drop off points. Who gets to choose what to watch on the T.V. screen in the back of the taxi?
Regardless, with the experience of hostels becoming more and more popular and the whole shared experience, I think it's a refreshing concept to engage on. It presents a good opportunity to save money, share experiences, meet people and save resources. C'mon New Yorkers, lets go communal!

P.S.1 (Long Island City, Queens)
P.S.1 (MOMA’s eccentric sister museum) displays progressive and cutting edge art. What stands out most are the cozy video art exhibits that are often fashioned to simulate a private viewing. Incredibly cheap admission is also a huge plus. P.S.1, like MOMA, showcases modern art. But, here you are more likely to explore more avant-garde and shocking imagery. In no way could P.S.1 replace the MOMA experience. It will, however, give you a distinctly different experience with merit of its own. Check out their website at www.ps1.org.
